Disodium Cromoglycate Active Against Respiratory Syncytial Virus
Disodium cromoglycate, an agent commonly used to prevent bronchial asthma and allergic rhinitis, reduced the symptoms of induced respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection in mice, in a study by Japanese researchers reported in the February issue of the Journal of Medical Virology. The results suggest that disodium cromoglycate (DSCG) could be an effective agent for preventing RSV-induced disease and/or relieving the symptoms of RSV infection in humans.
