Thalidomide Ineffective for Small Cell Lung Cancer

For patients with small cell lung cancer, treatment with thalidomide does not improve survival or quality of life, according to a phase III clinical trial published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute on August 5. Paclitaxel-Eluting Stents Safe for PCI in Elderly

Paclitaxel-eluting stents are safe for use during percutaneous coronary interventions (PCIs) in elderly patients, new research indicates. Findings from a meta-analysis and from registry data indicate that, compared with bare metal stents, stents coated with paclitaxel are associated with reduced rates of target lesion revascularization among patients over 70 years of age. Methadone May Overcome Treatment-Resistant Leukemia

In vitro studies at the University of Ulm in Germany indicate that methadone induces apoptosis of leukemia cells without affecting nonleukemic lymphocytes.
