Summary: The Pharmacy Technician shall perform a full range of pharmacy technician procedures. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position) Perform pharmaceutical dispensing duties including filling new outpatient prescriptions, refilling prescriptions, and entering orders into databases. Performs pharmacy dispensing services using knowledge of pharmaceuticals in order to perform duties in pharmacy functional areas; knowledge of pharmaceutical nomenclature (including generic, chemical, and proprietary names of drug) and dosage forms; and knowledge of drug formulary updates. Receive, review, prepare, and fill physician orders under the oversight or guidance of a registered pharmacist. Perform information consultation duties including supporting new and refill prescriptions, supporting patient requests, supporting physicians requests, monitoring for drug interactions, and reporting adverse drug reactions. Perform quality improvement duties including performing drug storage inspection, reviewing expired supplies, and producing error and workload reports and documentation. o Assist in conducting medication storage area inspections, o Insure safe handling procedures for hazardous drugs. Perform supply process duties including placing new orders, stocking/restocking shelves, inventory maintenance, producing not in stock reports. o Assist in conducting medication inventories; verifies stock and enters data in computer system to maintain inventory records. o Utilize pharmacy automation systems o Perform pharmacy checks on sterile orders, bulk drug orders, and replenishment of medical arts. Performs administrative requirements for clinical pharmacists including: managing daily appointment schedules for patients in anticoagulation clinic, polypharmacy, and Warriors in Transition (WTU); manages consults generated by provider staff to ensure they are assigned to an appropriate clinical pharmacist as needed; gathering metrics data, then producing and distributing the monthly pharmacy metrics report, assists with peer review process by collecting reviews and then generating the monthly report. Assists in the preparation of reports using appropriate computer software. Generates monthly polypharmacy reports and distributes to appropriate personnel within the MTF. Works within the polypharmacy tracking report system and reports monthly metrics. Provides assistance in managing and maintaining the sole provider data base and enters and updates sole provider agreements. Assists in preparing and presenting compliance data to the Sole Provider Sub-committee. Attends and reports Sole Provider violations/investigations to the Sole Provider Committee regarding. Assists clinical pharmacist in data collection for Drug Use Evaluations, processing of Special Drug Requests, research projects, or required metrics as assigned. Incumbent uses knowledge of medical terminology, laboratory analyses, and computer skills for the collection and analysis of data. Uses knowledge of computer programs to fill out data collection forms, enter data into database, and prepare reports. Assists in the retrieval of medical records for review as necessary for task(s) assigned. Assists clinical pharmacist in clinic duties as assigned, including patient and health care professional contact via phone, entry of information into patient databases, chart review, laboratory collection and analysis, drug information. Exercises tact and uses appropriate language, when dealing with professional staff and patients. Answers routine inquiries posed by physicians, nurses, and other staff regarding the availability of specific items, stocked strengths, and available forms of medications. A minimum of 12 months of full-time experience within the last 36 months as a pharmacy technician. Graduation from a Pharmacy Technician program accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP), OR certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB), OR successful completion of a formal pharmacy technician training program (i.e., a technical, hospital, or retail-based program) OR Possess documented proof of having completed a pharmacy technician course of instruction plus a minimum of six-months of experience working as a full-time pharmacy technician. Have and maintain current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) from the American Heart Association and which specifies for Healthcare Providers. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software; Excel Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
